This is the seventh part of the I Am Series.

“All who seek to live apart from me will lose it all. But those who let go of their lives for my sake and surrender it all to me will discover true life!” —Matthew 10:39

The course of my life drastically changed a few years ago when my dream came to an abrupt end.

Basketball was everything to me. Early mornings, late nights, stat sheets, the applause from the crowd. But suddenly, all of that was gone.

Instead of fighting for rebounds, I found myself fighting for my life.

When basketball was stripped away, I realized that I had placed my identity in my talent as a baller. I felt broken and lost. I didn’t know who I was anymore. But this was when God began to show me who I was as His daughter. He had always wanted to show me this, but I had to surrender to His purpose and plan for my life first.

Although it was difficult going through so many trials and challenges, I know that God used them to shape and prepare me for His call on my life. God used what the enemy meant for harm and turned it around for my good.

We are sons and daughters of the King of kings. No matter what you’re going through, God can turn it around to strengthen you, refine your character, and promote you! All of the great heroes in the Bible went through great opposition before they stepped into their true calling.

It was not easy laying down my dream, but, ultimately, God showed me that His dream and call for my life are so much greater than what I had planned. I know it may be hard to believe at times, but God has not forgotten about you. Your life matters! God has placed a great call on your life that all of heaven and the world is waiting on you to RISE into.

Ask God what is keeping you from embracing His call for your life. Surrender it all to Him and begin living your life with divine purpose. Don’t wait, start today!

You are called, so live each day with purpose.

Thank you so much for sharing about being called. It’s such a blessing that I finally can relate to someone about thinking my life was just for basketball. I played club ball and was a four year starter on varsity and was recruited while playing club my junior year. I was planning on playing college ball, but then my junior year my dad heard from God to take me out of school and started a discipleship group at our church. Which emotionally hurt because I lost all my “cool” friends because my dad saw that I was headed towards a life of impurity and rebellion if he didn’t intercede. So my dad had me do online school, where I didn’t have a phone, car etc. and taught me and 8 other boys to hear the voice of God and ask God what are calling was. So that is now where I see Romans 8:28 was being worked out in my life. Even my dad thought I was going to take an offer for basketball and play in college. So even to his surprise and all my coaches I chose to work at the church under my dad (pastor) by singing and playing bass for worship with my brothers and leading the girls at youth group. So now at 22 serving and working in full time ministry. Where I am the director of women’s ministry at our church, speaking at different events, and also the event coordinator and discipling the younger girls and women much older than me. I now train them about how they won’t be judged on the good they do, but like John Bevere says, “But by what they are called to do.” It’s cool to know someone around my age went through the same type thing and is now fulfilled walking in your call too. By knowing God and then making Him known. I am so thankful I didn’t do what I thought was best but God used my dad to take away my ‘social life” haha and that helped me walked in my calling. Now I feel so much more fulfilled than if I played college basketball. Especially since I knew that I probably wouldn’t have had the accountability to stay pure of wait for when God sends His best. Now with the accountability I can teach younger girls to hear the voice of God and what His perfect will for your life is and that it is possible to live a life of holiness and purity. My dream is to one day become a full time women’s speaker and continue to make disciples! I now can still have fun by still being disciplined physically and spiritually. God also directed me to find what I love even more than basketball, which was CrossFit! Thank you Sons&Daughters for all your inspiration and encouragement. My church family and especially young adults group is blessed with your content and with Messenger. Especially Lisa and John Bevere’s books. I especially love the books, The Bait of Satan, Driven by Eternity, and Without Rival, actually all their books! Wish you guys were located closer to Arizona so I could visit y’all , haha maybe one day. Are any of the Bevere sons or daughter in laws planning on writing any books?
Sorry for this long post, God Bless! Proverbs 11:25

  2. God brought to this series to teach me about identity, that I knew the moment I saw the “I am series”. But what I didn’t know was that He would completely rebuild my view of myself through this week. Thy name be praised, Lord Jesus!
Guys, I just want to thank each and every one of you for letting God use you in this generation. Each video was mind and heart blowing – in a awesome way, of course – and I can say that thanks to God, I’m not the same as I was when I began watching.
I had said before that I am a daughter of the King, but now is different because I won’t only say it. Now I know I am a daughter of the Lord, and I can understand Him working His will to make me live like a true daughter of His. Now I’ll live like it!
Anyways, thank you all so much. Praised be the Lord for His will and power, and for your lives.
    Cheers from Brazil 🙂

  3. Praise God for this testimony. I have a bit of a similar story with the ball. Our school was small, but it was when I had already graduated college that I felt so strongly I could still do it. The next day, I had an ACL tear like a big “no” from God in a game of teachers vs. students. God, in His mercy, though it may be difficult, keeps us from things that are not for us so or that may destroy us so we won’t be kept from what He has purposed in and through us.

This is a truth that the sooner we learn the better it will be, for our life as a whole, as I would have understood it sooner, but when we give ourselves to the purpose of God it is that we truly feel alive
